As the people ambassador, automated emails would come from me starting the employee start date through end of month 1. Throughout those 4 weeks, they would receive an email from me detailing what areas of this platform they should have completed last week and what their focus areas are for this week. Always with the option to set up time with me if they are stuck on anything.
Based on research, we learned that adults need different modalities for learning, as well as short, bite-sized education to help guide them on their new path. The onboarding program was digital, but consisted of different materials such as video, audio, and PDF's to help them come up t o speed in a quick and concise way.
First week on the job, we focus on the Cisco (macro-level) things to know. Then, slowly start to narrow the focus through the different organizations the new employee is apart of it and lastly, in the fourth week, they are focusing on their role-specific trainings. We recognized that people needed context for how their role connected to the larger picture.
The platform features two things that were critical to success of the program. Before moving to this platform, we had a wiki that contained this information in a less digestible way. The number one feedback we heard was that the employees wanted a way to "check off" the items they completed. This platform provided just that. Also, in order for me to understand what content was resonating with our employees, we added the ability to "rate" each module, so that we could make data-driven decisions to determine if we needed to swap out content that wasn't as helpful.
